Sod Installation in the Intermountain West Area

Here are a few tips on installing your new turf…
  • If you are installing the turf in the heat of the day, lightly sprinkle your ground to cool off the surface. This way you are not laying the sod on a hot surface.

  • Begin installation immediately upon delivery. This will prevent the sod from drying out.
  • Start laying the sod along the longest straight line, such as a driveway, fence line, or sidewalk.
  • Butt the edges of the sod together tightly and without stretching. Be sure to avoid any overlapping or gaps.
  • Lay the sod in a “brick” pattern. Staggering the seams.
  • To improve turf to soil contact, roll the area to remove any air pockets.
  • If possible lay your sod according to your sprinkler system stations so that once you’ve completed the station you can apply water immediately to the new sod. It is critical to water within the 1st 30 minutes after installation.
  • After you have completed the entire installtion, thoroughly soak the sod to the point where it is squishy underneath.
  • Maintain a moisture depth of 4-6″ throughout the establishment process, usually 2-3 weeks.
  • Avoid heavy traffic for the 1st few weeks.
